Stuart Parr’s Manhattan Loft, with custom shelving for his collection of Warren McArthur Furniture.

Parr is the world’s expert on McArthur furniture.  After he witnessed the sale of a pricey aluminum chair, he turned it over to read the label, Warren McArthur, Rome, New York.  The following day, he traveled to Rome and “expected to find McArthur furniture everywhere…  I was so depressed”  Later, Parr tracked down some of the factory workers to get a better grasp on the pieces produced by McArthur.  Today, Parr has the exclusive rights to reproduce McArthur’s designs.

Transience Mirrors by Lex Pott and David Derksen

Transcience shows the beauty of the natural oxidizing process of mirrors. By accelerating and manipulating this process, the Transcience mirrors show various stages of oxidation in three different geometrical patterns.

Normally, the oxidation process in a mirror occurs randomly and evolves slowly over time. This process can be regarded as degradation, however this project shows the beauty of this material transition of silver. These mirrors reveal the different states of this process. In this case, sulphur is used to create an accelerated oxidation process. Depending on the time that the silver is reacting with sulphur, different colour tones can be achieved, ranging from gold to brown, to purple to blue.

Transcience is a project developed together with Lex Pott for the Dutch Design Week 2011 in Eindhoven.

The artist is by necessity a collector; he accumulates things with the same ardor and curiosity [with which] a boy stuffs his pockets. He borrows from the sea and from the scrap heap; he takes snapshots, makes mental notes, and records impressions on tablecloths and newspapers—why one particular thing and not another, he may not know at the time, but he is omnivorous. He has a taste for children’s wall scrawling as appreciative as that for prehistoric cave painting.
