East Village, 1978-1985 by Michael Sean Edwards
Between 1978 and 1979, Dinanda Nooney took a series of portraits of people living in their Brooklyn homes. (I like to think of it as a proto-Selby.) What makes this series interesting is that very few photographers focused on the Brooklyn during this time. Her series provides a unique perspective on what life was like in the borough at the peak of the “Malaise Era.” I could go on about how much I would like to have lived in NYC during the late seventies and early eighties (especially Brooklyn) but that’s a subject for another day.
