R.I.P. Technics SL-1200/1210
“The digital juggernaut continues its mindless destruction of analog classics, with the latest brand to throw in the towel being venerable club favorite Technics…which will cease production in Feb 2010.” (via Slashgear)
Shitty. I love my 1200.
I wish my sister would let me have hers :(
I would very much like to have this item of technology to cherish and love.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Okay, let me set the record straight here.
This rumor comes up every time Technics revamps their SL-1200 lineup. DMC World started this rumor when they received an End of Life (EOL) for the MK2 and MK5. DMC World is the ONLY source reporting the “death” of the 1200 (they are also in New Zealand). Panasonic has not said anything publicly about terminating the SL-1200 series other than that “analog equipment sales are down for this year.”
You also need to understand that many places currently sell the MK2, MK3D, MK5, MK5G and MK6. There is little variation between models and the lineup is quite cluttered. I would not be surprised if Technics reduced the lineup to the MK2 and MK6 to reduce costs. The 1200 has over 35 years in sales, and is the best selling turntable ever. I doubt Panasonic loses money when these sell for $500 a pop or more for the special models. Not only that, but when it comes to being a DJ, Stanton and Numark turntables don’t even come close. If high fidelity is what you’re into, Music Hall, Rega and Pro-Ject models can’t even touch it sonically for the same price. I doubt this analog icon will disappear anytime within the next ten years.
You kids have to stop believing everything you read on the message boards and go back to spinning records.
